Project:New editors

From Warwick Wiki

This page is intended to act as both a basic guide to wiki editing and a guide to the specific policies and guidelines that this wiki follows.

How to edit

There are two ways to edit pages: the visual editor, and the source editor. The visual editor allows you to edit articles in a (mostly) what-you-see-is-what-you-get way, and is probably easier for getting started. You can access it with the "Edit" button on pages. The source editor lets you edit pages using the underlying wikitext markup language. It may be harder to learn, but it's more powerful and may end up being far faster. You can access it with the "Edit source" button on pages.

If you're inexperienced with wiki editing, you may with to experiment with editing before trying to edit any real pages. You can do so in a "sandbox" page. For help on wikitext formatting, see this help page.

Warwick Wiki policies

Editors of the Warwick Wiki should follow the wiki's policies. These are listed in Category:Wiki policies. The most important ones are:

Collaborating

Wikis are collaborative. While editing here, you will need to interact with the edits of others. You can view a feed of recent edits, and you also have a personalised feed of edits to pages you've chosen to watch. All pages have talk pages, allowing you to discuss the editing of the page with others. You can access this by clicking "Discussion" at the top of the page. You even have your own talk page which other editors can use to contact you. There's also the discussion board for conversations that are broader than just one page. Finally, you should give a brief overview of who you are on your user page. This is your space to do whatever you like (within reason) on.
